TL;DR

Arrive 5 minutes early. Wear whatever. Say hi to the clipboard. Circle, move, coffee. No one is dropped.

Why this matters

The NHS lists 'connect with other people' as the first of the five ways to mental wellbeing.

The scariest part of joining anything is the first ten minutes. Here's exactly what happens so nothing surprises you.

  • 1Arrive 5 minutes early. Wear whatever you own.
  • 2Say hi to whoever's holding a clipboard — that's a coach or a peer coach. They're expecting you.
  • 3Short circle first: names, and (optionally) why you're here.
  • 4Then we move — walk, run, or a mix. No one is dropped. No one is judged.
  • 5We finish with coffee. Stay if you want. Go if you need to. No pressure either way.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • ×Waiting until you're 'fit enough' first. That's not how any of this works.
  • ×Buying new kit before your first session — anything you own is fine.
  • ×Coming, not saying hi, leaving. Say hi. We're friendly.

LEVEL UP

  • Bring a mate to session two.
  • Volunteer to welcome the next newcomer.
  • Aim for four sessions in your first month — that's when it locks in.
